Wedding Trends for 2020

The wedding season will soon be upon us, and despite Coronavirus trying to dampen our spirits (see how we are taking precautions), 2020 is a very exciting year for those tying the knot. From sustainable flowers to vegan menus taking the spotlight, here are some of the top wedding trends for 2020.

Sustainable Weddings

For the planet-conscious among us, sustainable weddings are going to continue to be trendy this year. Following Princess Eugenie’s environmentally-friendly wedding towards the end of last year, there are lots more eco-friendly options available now.
A couple of simple ways you can reduce your carbon footprint for your wedding include swapping plastic place settings for seasonal fruit, choosing locally grown, seasonal flowers, and real petal confetti as opposed to paper confetti.

Bridal Hair and Make-up

The style of your wedding hair and make-up mainly depends upon the season in which your wedding is taking place. For a spring wedding, accessories are your go-to. Add some colour to your eyes, and style your hair with some silk ribbons that match the theme of your wedding. If you are getting married in the summer, opt for natural peaches, corals and rose gold, with your hair soft and flowy.

Wedding Cakes

New trends are starting to emerge when it comes to wedding cakes. Whilst buttercream coated tiers decorated with fresh fruit and flowers are still trendy, there seems to be a shift towards different presentations. Many couples separate out the tiers and pop them on different height cake stands. Teal and peacock blue colours also seem to be popular, as well as having icing figurines to personalise the cakes more.

The Return of the Rose

According to several sources, the wedding flower of 2020 is set to be the humble rose. A bridal bouquet full of only one colour rose will look stunning, just make sure you choose the right colour roses for the right season. In winter, stick with deep reds and pure whites, but in spring and summer opt for lighter, coral shades of pink and peach. You can also include roses within your centrepiece table decorations to tie your bouquet in with the theme.

Vegan Menus

The start of a new year always seems to mean ‘Veganuary’, but this is now becoming quite a trend throughout the entire year. With more and more people opting to become vegan, you need to make sure that all of your guests are catered for. Rather than having a few specific vegetarian or vegan options for those with dietary requirements, why not opt for a full vegan menu? There are so many mouthwatering recipes available now, you really can get creative.

Multi-functional Wedding Dresses

Rather than wearing your wedding dress throughout the full day of celebrations, people are now having 2 dresses for their special day: a ceremony dress and a reception dress. However, if you aren’t wanting to have a quick wardrobe change in the evening, you may want to consider a wedding dress that comes with a lace cover-up. A dress with a detachable skirt is also a great idea as it gives you a completely different look for the reception.

Sketched Stationery

Personalisation is a trend that keeps growing when it comes to planning the perfect wedding. Hand-written ‘save the dates’ along with illustrations, particularly of the wedding venue itself are trending this year. If you know someone who is good at graphic design, see if they can help you put together your wedding stationery.
